Lazy Star Block 1

Lazy Star Block 1

Here is block one, I am going to call this one Mrs. Barbara’s Star (not it’s official quilt star name), when I was talking to one of my dear customers Mrs. Barbara I asked her which block should we start off with and this is the one she picked out. That is why I am naming it after her.

Make sure you watch the YouTube video before attempting this will just save you some trouble and make it easier to understand. Remember the videos can be found on the Sewing with Cody and Pete Channel in the Lazy Star Playlist.

This is one of the easier blocks and this is one of the 10 ½” squares.

*Tips* Remember to always press your seams after you sew, also always press to the darker fabric. This ensures your ¼” seam doesn’t show Through.

Key

Fill in your colors that you are using

Fabric A = Pink  ________________

Fabric B = Teal ________________

Fabric C = light Cream ___________

Background = White _____________

Step 1

Cut 1 strip 5 ½” WOF (width of fabric) each from fabric A, B and Background.

(Make sure to start with a clean straight edge..)

(Cut 1 Strip 5 ½”)

Step 2

Cut 4 background Trapezoids using the 5 ½” section

(Cut 4 background large trapezoid pieces 5 ½”)

Step 3

Cut 4 from fabric A and B smaller trapezoids for the 5 ½” section. You should have a total of 4 from fabric A and 4 from fabric B.

Step 4

Sew one Background to a Fabric B trapezoid. Follow pictures below…

Do this for all 4 Backgrounds and Teal pieces, you should end up with four squares.

After you sew make sure you press your seam flat and press your fabric to the dark side!! See video*

(Should end up with four of these squares)

Step 5

Now you are going to cut a piece of the background piece off of the squares you just created. See pictures below.

(Do this to all of the squares)

Step 6

Now sew the Fabric A to the side you just cut.

Sew Fabric A to the cut side of the square then press your seam to the dark side. Continue and do this to the other three blocks.

Here are two block orientations you can make with the four squares you made. In the quilt i made option one but feel free to do whatever you’d like. :)

Step 7

Now you have four squares that are identical. Make sure they are all squared up to the same size and now we are going to sew them together. Before I sew my squares together here I like to make sure all of my little dog ears are cut off so they are not in my way when piecing the four squares together. So I like to work with the two on the top then the two one the bottom then press then sew the top section to the bottom section all the time pressing my seams to the dark side of your fabric.
