Lazy Star Block 3

Lazy Star Block 3

Downloadable Pattern

Here is the easiest block in the entire quilt so this is a real quick block. This block will make a quick and easy quilt if you wanted to make two dozen of them. Make sure you watch the YouTube video before attempting this will just save you some trouble and make it easier to understand. Remember the videos can be found on the Sewing with Cody and Pete Channel in the Lazy Star Playlist.

This is one of the easier blocks and this is one of the 10 ½” squares.

*Tips* Remember to always press your seams after you sew, also always press to the darker fabric. This ensures your ¼” seam doesn’t show Through.

Key

Fill in your colors that you are using

Fabric A = Pink  ________________

Fabric B = Teal ________________

Fabric C = light Cream ___________

Background = White _____________

Step 1

Cut 1 strip 5 ½” WOF (width of fabric) each from fabric A, B and Background.

Step 2

Cut 2 Fabric A & B Trapezoids using the 5 ½” section totalling four

Step 3

Cut 4 small trapezoids of the background fabric.

Step 4

Now we are going to sew the four background small trapezoids to the cut side of the four large trapezoids of fabric A & B. Then once sewn press towards the dark side.

Step 5

Now that we have our small blocks sewn and pressed lets construct our larger block. See picture below for block arrangements then sew the top two and then the bottom two together. Press. Then attach the top and bottom segments.

Step 6

Now that our block is constructed lets press that center seam Open this allows it to lay flatter.

Done!!

Now you have four squares that are identical. Make sure they are all squared up to the same size and now we are going to sew them together. Before I sew my squares together here I like to make sure all of my little dog ears are cut off so they are not in my way when piecing the four squares together. So I like to work with the two on the top then the two one the bottom then press then sew the top section to the bottom section all the time pressing my seams to the dark side of your fabric.

You have just finished Block 3 hop you enjoyed making this simple  block with me using the Lazy Angle ruler. Now stay tuned for next week's block on the YouTube Channel “Sewing with Cody and Pete”
