Lazy Star Block 4

Lazy Star Block 4

10 ½ square

Here is block 4 in the quilt-Along. This is my favorite block so far we’ve done it’s just something about it I love and I hope you enjoy making it as much as I did. So let's get started.

Make sure you watch the YouTube video before attempting this will just save you some trouble and make it easier to understand. Remember the videos can be found on the Sewing with Cody and Pete Channel in the Lazy Star Playlist.

*Tips* Remember to always press your seams after you sew, also always press to the darker fabric. This ensures your ¼” seam doesn’t show Through.

Key

Fill in your colors that you are using

Fabric A = Pink  ________________

Fabric B = Teal ________________

Fabric C = light Cream ___________

Background = White _____________

Step 1

Cut 1 strip 5 ½” WOF (width of fabric) each from fabric A, B and Background.

(Make sure to start with a clean straight edge..)

(Cut 1 Strip 5 ½”)

Step 2

Cut 4 background Trapezoids using the 5 ½” section

(Cut 4 background large trapezoid pieces 5 ½”)

Step 3

Cut 4 from fabric A, B and Background smaller trapezoids for the 5 ½” section. You should have a total of 4 from fabric A, 4 from fabric B and 4 from Background.

Step 4

Sew one Background to a Fabric A trapezoid. Follow pictures below…

Do this for all 4 Backgrounds and Pink (A) pieces, you should end up with four squares.

Now press the seams towards the dark side (Fabric A, Pink)

Step 5

Now trim a side off of this block.

Discard piece you just cut off

Step 6

Now take fabric B small trapezoid pieces and sew to the new cut side of the small block.

Step 7

After you sew the small trapezoid now press the seam towards the dark side and then we are going to cut one last side of this small block. In order to do this we need to flip the block upside down so the wrong side of the block is facing up.

Make sure you press seam towards your dark side.

Flip block so the wrong side of the block is facing up. Using the ruler line up along the 5 ½” side of the ruler.

Discard the small cut piece.

Step 8

Now sew the last background small Trapezoid to the cut side of all four small blocks.

Step 8

Now that you have all of the small blocks together, let's trim them up to 5 ½” and make sure all of the little “dog ears” are cut off so it is nice and clean. Next sew these blocks together.

Step 9

Let's sew this block together, first sew the top and bottom blocks together. Then sew the top and bottoms pieces together to finish the 10 ½” block.

*Remember to press the top seam one direction and the bottom seam the opposite direction so when you sew the top to the bottom those seams interlock and help make your point line up. Press seams open up when done and you’re done. :)

You have just finished Block 4 and hope you enjoyed making this simple  block with me using the Lazy Angle ruler. . Now stay tuned for next week's block on the YouTube Channel “Sewing with Cody and Pete”
