Lazy Star Quilt Along Block 5

Lazy Angle Quilt Along

Block 5

Here we’ve reached Block 5. Block five is the first block that we will be changing the size. Block 5-10 are only 6 ½” blocks. So the important number with these blocks is 2 ½”. So this means most of our strips that we will be cutting are going to be 2 ½”. So let's get started with these blocks, starting with block 5.

Step 1

Let's start with cutting our strips for this block. Here I was able to use some scraps that I had left over. Cut 1- 2 ½” from Fabric A, B, and Background

Step 2

From background cut 4 - 2 ½’ Squares for corners of the block

Cut 4- large trapezoids that measure 2 ½”

Step 3

From Fabric A cut 8 - Small Trapezoids measuring 2 ½”

Step 4

Cut 1- 2 ½” square from fabric B strip.

Step 5

Now sew small trapezoids of fabric A,  to the cut side of the large trapezoides of background trapezoides

Step 6

Now press to the dark side and trim block to 2 ½”

Step 7

Once trimmed flip right side down and cut the four small blocks to match pictures below.

Step 8

Flip blocks back over and attach remaining four Fabric A trapezoides to the newly cut side of the small blocks, as pictured below. Then press and trim blocks.

Step 9

Once all small pieces are sewn and pressed now layout your block to match picture (s) below. Below there are two different orientations where you can lay the pieces out. So with these blocks you can make two different style blocks both equal 6 ½”. We are going to to continue with the first block.

Step 10

The construction of the block, as you can see we are working with each row. Make sure you press the seams in opposite directions from each row as we talked about in the video.

You have just finished your block 5. I hope you enjoyed making this block with me Remember you have the option of making two different style blocks out of the pisces you’ve sewn together before you sew your small squares together and it will equal out to the same size that we need, so feel free to create either block for the quilt - Along. Now stay tuned for next week's block on the YouTube Channel “Sewing with Cody and Pete”
